Maroon Bells under the Milky Way 1

Maroon Bells

This milky way photograph comes from one of the most beautiful spots in Colorado - the Maroon Bells and Maroon Lake just outside of Aspen and Snowmass. In late June, around 345am, the magical Milky Way appears to stream straight from the summits of Maroon Peak and north Maroon Peak. This image is a composite: the first image is a long exposure of the milky way using a star tracker. The second image was taken about 45 minutes before sunrise to allow for some detail to show in the foreground. The two photographs were then blended together to create what our eyes can see but the camera cannot capture. This image can be printed quite large, as well. Photo © copyright by Rob Greebon.
