Lower Blue Lake on a Summer Afternoon 726-1
San Juan Mountains
Of the three Blue Lakes, Lower Blue Lake is the most photogenic. The beautiful turquoise water is given its color from mineral deposits in this glacial basin. Not far from the town of Ouray, the lake sits at just under 11,000' but it is another 500' vertical feet to reach this vantage point. From mid-July to mid-August, the wildflowers are abundant and make for a nice foreground. In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful views in the state of Colorado.
